Employee Spotlight: Meaghan Sloan’s Journey with Medical Waste

At Daniels, our mission is driven by people with passion, vision and a deep commitment to making healthcare safer. We believe in celebrating these employees who bring our values to life every day. Today, we are putting a well-deserved spotlight on Meaghan Sloan, our Director of Sales Operations.

Meaghan embodies the very best of Daniels, and her impact is visible across Canadian healthcare facilities and within the walls of Daniels itself. She’s not just a leader; she’s proof of what makes Daniels Health a trusted partner in Canadian healthcare.

TOPICS WE WILL COVER:

A Childhood
Surrounded by Waste

For Meaghan, medical waste isn’t just a career, it’s part of her DNA. Growing up around the industry, Meaghan was exposed to the world of medical waste at a young age.

While other kids spent weekends at the park, Meaghan would go with family to visit a plant and help assemble single use sharps containers. As she got older, she took on part-time weekend work on a Washsmart washline, before gradually moving into other roles.

As she recounts, family dinners were always filled with work discussions.

Meaghan developed a strong sense of ownership and curiosity about the industry that would ultimately become her life’s work.

I didn’t grow up thinking this was going to be my career choice, but once I got into it full time, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Forging Her Own Path

Meaghan’s journey at Daniels has been anything but conventional. She started in administration and sales, but it was in sales operations where she found her home.

“This was only possible given the trust Daniels has put in me and my ability to choose my own adventure” Sloan said.

And what an adventure it’s been!

Meaghan was vital in building the Canadian sales operations team from the ground up. What began as a one-person team soon turned into a 26-person squad.

Meaghan thrives on challenges, finding them to be the most rewarding part of her job. As she explains, no two customers are alike, and that’s where the magic (and difficulty) of sales operations comes in. Their job is to drive and develop processes that are transferable across the entire country.

“We must consider every step, in every province, in every facility, for every department… We must find the common ground, driving process that works for everyone” Sloan said.

Her focus on adaptability, structure and clarity have been key to streamlining operations and delivering consistent service across all of Canada.

There is no normal day at Daniels, which is one of the reasons I absolutely love working here. I am on my toes every hour of every day!

Currently, she oversees six distinct areas within sales operations: general operations, administration, project management, sales support, clinical and sustainability initiatives and customer service. Her eye for long-term impact and dedication to continuous improvement have made her an important asset for our team.

A Leader Who Listens

Ask Meaghan what leadership means to her, and she’ll tell you about its importance.

“My mission is to arm every employee with whatever they need to be effective and efficient” Sloan said.

She leads by example, creating a space for questions personal or professional. Her team knows they can approach her with challenges, new ideas or even just as a soundboard. She credits her own success to the mentors who once did the same for her.

“I am the leader I am only because my leaders did the same for me” Sloan said.

Meaghan is transparent about the fact that she has made mistakes and bad decisions along the way, but she’s thankful she had a group of Canadian industry leaders to guide her.

We don’t know what we don’t know. Collaboration and buy-in from everyone for an impactful decision is crucial for success.

Meaghan acknowledges that collaboration is one of the biggest lessons she has learned from working at Daniels and in sales operations.

More Than a Job

Company culture matters to Meaghan, and Daniels feels like family. Even on the hardest days, she values the laughs, camaraderie and trust she shares with her colleagues.

We laugh, joke, poke fun, argue, get frustrated with each other just like a regular family!

Meaghan shares how blessed she is for creating friendships that are both inside and outside of work. As a wife and mother, she’s thankful for a workplace that showcases both her personal and professional life. Something she doesn’t take for granted.

And when she’s not at work?

You’ll probably find her spending time with family, watching true crime shows or introducing someone to good tequila. She’s also a fan of all things Canadian including poutine, Montreal smoked meat and ketchup chips.

Looking to the Future

Meaghan is proud of what her team has accomplished and excited for what’s ahead. She sees endless potential in refining processes and supporting Daniels Health Canada’s growth.

“When you truly listen to why Dan Daniels does what he does, his passion and vision, then look at the leadership he has built across the world and the system that is saving, lives it’s magic” Sloan said.

And her advice for anyone considering a role in medical waste?

Don’t be scared to get into an industry that very little people know and can be seen as gross or scary… It’s not for the weak, but it’s extremely rewarding when you take a step back and look at what we’re accomplishing.

Thanks to Meaghan, sales operations is thriving. We are incredibly fortunate to have her on our team and can’t wait to see what she’ll accomplish next.
