Biohazard waste goes to a licensed treatment facility. Most biomedical waste in Canada is autoclaved, a steam sterilization process that renders it non-infectious, while anatomical and cytotoxic waste is incinerated instead. Treated residual material is then landfilled under standard municipal waste rules. Daniels Health operates its own treatment facilities in Canada, so the waste we collect is processed inside our own network rather than handed to a third party.
